In a demonstration of economic resilience, Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism sector has grown significantly, benefiting local entrepreneurs and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne reflected on the achievements when he addressed the nation last night.

With an increasing number of visitors flocking to the twin-island nation, the tourism landscape has become a vital pillar of the economy, he said

According to recent reports, Antiguans and Barbudans take pride in owning approximately 450 small tourism enterprises and controlling 85 percent of the 900 Airbnb accommodations offered across the islands.

This local ownership not only empowers the community but also ensures that the economic benefits of tourism are reinvested within the region.

The 2024 season proved to be exceptionally fruitful, with an unprecedented influx of 824,000 cruise passengers and 21,000 yacht visitors.

This surge in tourism has significantly contributed to the nation’s economy, which is now estimated at an impressive $6 billion.

Remarkably, per capita income has reached a record high of $60,000, further highlighting the positive impact of tourism on the local community.

As the islands continue to attract tourists from around the globe, Antigua and Barbuda’s population is optimistic about the future of tourism.

The emphasis on local ownership and sustainability is expected to play a pivotal role in maintaining the balance between economic growth and cultural preservation.

With these encouraging developments, Antigua and Barbuda stands poised to enrich the lives of its residents further while continuing to offer unforgettable experiences to travelers seeking sun, sea, and culture in the Caribbean.

  1. While all these good things are supposedly taking place here, the islands infrastructure is deteriorating day by day the city is fastly becoming a slum. Night life in St John’s is non existent, the visitors have no where to go except for after dinner entertainment at the hotels where they stay and all this prosperity is only being felt by the uppercrats. What about the others, the little man and woman who keeps this country functioning? They too have a story to tell.

  2. Oh, okay. I thought you had reporters, actual people that you PAY to write stories. NOT A.I! I thought you used your key boards and that they are not taking dust! So why the last 3 stories on this website written by a.i.? You yourself will expose your hypocrisy, no one has to do it for you.

  3. Dear Lord, where has truth gone?
But as the saying goes: Half a truth is half of a great lie; and If the words and numbers don’t add up, watch out!
Truth has taken an indefinite sabbatical.
All I know is that the majority of workers wished that they could earn $40,000 yearly.
