Prime Minister Gaston Browne has issued a stern warning, indicating that he may seek a snap election if the United Progressive Party (UPP) does not resolve its ongoing issues.

The UPP has been grappling with significant internal turmoil, highlighted by the recent departure of several prominent members. This further exacerbated the party’s challenges and raised questions about its stability and effectiveness.

During an interview with State Media at the official swearing-in ceremony for Minister Rawdon Turner on Wednesday, Browne stated, “I would be more inclined to call a general election if the UPP doesn’t get its act together.”

The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) successfully retained the St. Peter constituency. This seat was previously held by the late Asot Michael, who was tragically slain not long ago. Michael had initially won the seat as an independent candidate following a tumultuous breakup with the ABLP.

Following his untimely death, a by-election was promptly called, and the ABLP reclaimed the constituency.

While general elections in Antigua and Barbuda are scheduled for 2028, the Prime Minister has the authority to announce the election date at his discretion.

Gaston Brown, why don’t you go and change the pampers you wearing.. like you start smelling you own mess. You have the people of this country like yoyos. You have won St. Peter, good for you, but that doesn’t give you the right to threaten the opposition to shape up or you going call election. Call it now if you feel you bad but be careful no one knows the future but God and you are surely not him..

What stern warning??? The PM was asked a question in passing re the possibility if a snap election. The substantive part of your interview with him was over. As he was leaving, you popped the question re the possibility of a snap electionto which the PM replie d as he was leaving words to the effect ” if they don’t get their act together.” What threat. You so-called journalists are really vexatious to my spirit. Get off your azy backside, get out there and provide newsworthy reports that invite intelligent discourse!! Time to rise from the mire!
