The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has achieved a significant victory in the St. Peter constituency, strengthening its majority in parliament.

ABLP candidate Rawdon Turner emerged victorious in Tuesday’s by-election, surpassing his opponent, George Wehner of the United Progressive Party, with a substantial number of votes.

Turner recieved 1672 votes while Wehner received 570.

Turner expressed his gratitude, thanking both his party for their unwavering support and the constituents for placing their confidence in him.

“I was able to show the people that I made promises to them during the last general elections and even if i was not successful, i remained committed and I stayed on the ground. I made a promise and the work will continue”, he said

This win is particularly meaningful for the ABLP, which lost the St. Peter seat in the last general elections to the late Asot Michael, who chose to run as an independent following a split from the party.

Turner outlined ambitious plans for the constituency, including the establishment of the Paynters project, which is already under development.

This initiative aims to construct 16 homes in Pare and an additional 37 in Vernons, with construction expected to be completed within six to eight months.

Furthermore, Turner shared a detailed proposal to revitalize the historic harbor into a marina, highlighting it as a key promise during his campaign for the by-election held on January 14.

The project’s first phase will allow local residents to invest in building a gas station that will provide services to fishermen and private boat owners.

In phase two, the gas station will be expanded into a full marina, offering berths and moorings for boats, which is anticipated to generate rental income while creating numerous job opportunities for the local community.

Turner’s plans extend beyond these developments, as he also mentioned initiatives aimed at improving healthcare facilities, establishing youth mentorship programs, creating community marketplaces, and constructing community centers and parks in Gunthropes, Pares, and Parham.

Turner also thanked his opponent Wehner, The two shook hands following the announcment of the victory.

  8. Joke town Antigua.

Why really be concerned about who wins or not? In the long run Antigua is and will always be a smelly nasty dump that , caters to the rich who pay members of government under the table to sell out the stupid people that only care about carnival, free turkey and ham, and music shows that non talent Antiguans can’t perform in. Also stupid cricket matches. What a bunch of clowns.
