Meet the SLBMC Ethics Committee

Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) is pleased to announce the reconstitution of its Ethics Committee, now led by the esteemed Dr. Serena St. Luce. This revitalized committee is set to enhance the commitment of the healthcare institution to uphold the highest ethical standards in patient care, clinical decision-making, and medical research.

The Ethics Committee at SLBMC plays a crucial role in guiding healthcare professionals, patients, and their families through complex ethical dilemmas. With Dr. St. Luce at the forefront, the committee will address a variety of situations, including uncertainties about decision-making for patients who cannot communicate, conflicts between personal beliefs and treatment options, disagreements over treatment initiation or cessation, and instances of moral distress among healthcare staff.

Dr. St. Luce expressed her enthusiasm for leading the committee, highlighting the importance of ethical guidance in fostering informed decision-making. “In an ever-evolving healthcare landscape, it is imperative that we navigate ethical challenges with integrity and compassion,” she stated.

The ethics consultation services are available to patients, their families, and all members of the healthcare team. Those seeking guidance are encouraged to contact the committee via email at [email protected].

This reconstitution of the Ethics Committee marks a significant step forward in strengthening the compassionate care provided by SLBMC, ensuring that all decisions made respect the best interests of patients and adhere to ethical standards.

With Dr. St. Luce’s leadership and the dedication of the committee members, SLBMC is poised to continue delivering exemplary healthcare that reflects both medical excellence and ethical responsibility.
