Colin C. James, CEO of the Tourism Authority, presents a special token of appreciation to Ananya Prasad, who became the first woman of color to complete a solo row across any ocean

The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority has offered commendation as they welcomed Ananya Prasad, who became the first woman of color to complete a solo row across any ocean.

Colin C. James, CEO of the Tourism Authority, presented a special token of appreciation to the accomplished athlete upon her arrival at English Harbour on February 1, 2025.

The 34-year-old Bengaluru-born endurance athlete covered an astounding 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean as part of the World’s Toughest Row competition.

Prasad’s journey, which began on December 11, 2024, in La Gomera, Spain’s Canary Islands, concluded after 52 days, 5 hours, and 44 minutes – establishing her as the second-fastest solo woman in the event’s history.

“Ananya’s determination and courage are truly inspiring, and we’re proud to be the destination where her remarkable journey came to a close,” the Tourism Authority stated.

Her achievement is particularly noteworthy as she secured second place in the solo category of the annual race, which demands exceptional physical strength, mental endurance, and technical skill.

Prasad, who moved to the UK at age six, demonstrated extraordinary resilience throughout her Atlantic crossing.
