Micheal Freeland (Top Left), Bakisha Francis-James (Top Right), Salim Browne (Bottom Left), Joel Rayne (Bottom Right).

Four candidates will compete in the upcoming primary election for the St. George constituency on March 18, which the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) is organizing.

This candidate slate was officially approved on Friday during a special executive meeting at the ABLP headquarters, known as People’s Place.

The candidates include media figure Joel Rayne, sports administrator and entrepreneur Michael Freeland, former independent senator Bakisha Francis-James, and public sector worker and entrepreneur Salim Browne.

Each candidate took the opportunity to address the executive, introduce themselves, and share their vision for the constituency if selected as the primary winner.

They all committed to working diligently, both as individuals and as a team, to reclaim the St. George seat for the ABLP.

Registered voters in the constituency who are ABLP members in good standing will be eligible to vote.

The provisional list of voters is set to be published by March 14, and candidates have until March 16 to raise any objections, which must be resolved before the final list is released on March 17, just in time for the primary the following day.

Voting will take place at Potters Primary School from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. In addition, the ABLP plans to participate in this year’s Barbuda Council Elections, scheduled for March 25.

Former parliamentarian Arthur Nibbs will lead a group of five candidates for this election, with additional names to be revealed later.

Algernon Serpent Watts, of the United Progressive Party, currently holds that constituency. He unseated the ABLP’s Dean Jonas.

It should not be too difficult to get rod the incumbent serpent. What has he done for his Constituency except to set up a business for himself. What a shame. But then, what can you expect of a snake??

Faithful National #1, What can Serpent do with the $2,000 monthly received from the government for such a large constituency? Serpent has his business before going into politics. You need to go check all the ABLP candidates businesses they have established since in government and leave Serpent alone. The ABLP candidate for St George’s and government in power have the country’s purse to work with, not Serpent, so he/she should be the one to see that the constituency infrastructures care for. Serpent can only report all his findings for the constituency to the administration in government, and be the voice for the constituency in parliament. For example, Can $2,000 monthly fixed the roads and drainage in St George’s constituency?
The UPP administration has done more roads rehabilitation projects with the assistance of the Cubans, than ABLP administration ever did in the last eleven (11) years since being in government.
