Although a test was undertaken some weeks ago, a final determination of which of the three companies will be selected for the implementation of ED cards in Antigua and Barbuda has not been made.
Chief of staff in the Prime Minister’s Office Lionel Hurst said the decision would be made in due course.
An ED card, or Embarkation-Disembarkation card, is a mandatory online document that travelers must complete before entering certain destinations.
Three firms made their proposals to Cabinet last year.
From all indications the test was successfully carried out by one of the three companies.
“The Cabinet still has not decided on who the vendor will be. At least two other teams that presented to the Cabinet are still being evaluated. We want to ensure that we are getting the most for the dollars that will be spent. The Cabinet has been very careful. Although we recognize that there is a deadline that requires us to make a decision so that the accumulation on persons in the arrival lounge can be greatly reduced.
“I think there might be a test of one other company. The decision will be made by Cabinet in due course,” Hurst said.
Initially, a December 31st deadline was shared for the initiative to be rolled out.
