Barbadian cultural icon, Anthony “Gabby” Carter has been released on bail after appearing in the No 1. District “A” Magistrates Court today, charged with rape.

The 76-year-old, 9-time calypso monarch, Carter was not required to plead to the indictable offence.

Carter heard the Magistrate read the charge sheet, which alleges that between July 17th, 2023, and September 8th, 2023, he had sexual intercourse with a woman, without her consent or was reckless as to whether she consented.

The prosecution did not object to bail on the basis of the vintage of the matter but stipulated that Carter must surrender his passport by 2PM today and report to the Hastings Police Station every Tuesday and Saturday.

The Court also heard that due to Carter’s profession as an entertainer, he can apply to the Court if he wishes to travel before he has to return to court on July 14th.

He has released on bail in the sum of ten thousand dollars.

Carter’s Attorney, Senior Counsel Andrew Pilgrim, who is appearing in association with Leslie Cargill-Straker, told to Starcom Network News he will vigorously defend his client.
