“It is with profound sadness that the Department of Culture – Ministry of Creative Industries acknowledges the passing of Mr. Tyrell “TJ” Buckley, a talented and cherished member of the National Youth Theatre.

TJ was a shining example of dedication, passion, and artistic excellence. In his 19 years, he left an indelible mark on the creative landscape, inspiring all who had the privilege of knowing him.

His talent was evident not only in his exceptional performances but also in the way he uplifted those around him with his kindness, leadership, and unwavering enthusiasm for the arts.
A natural performer, TJ captivated audiences through theatre and music, demonstrating remarkable depth and authenticity in every role he embraced.

His award-winning performances at the 2023 Theatre Festival, where he was recognized for Best Actor and Best Improvisation Piece, are a testament to his extraordinary abilities. However, his true gift extended beyond the stage—he had a unique ability to connect with people, making them feel seen, heard, and valued.

Beyond his artistic achievements, TJ was a beacon of warmth and encouragement. Whether sharing a moment of laughter, offering heartfelt advice, or supporting his peers, he embodied the very essence of community and creativity. His presence brought light and inspiration, and his impact will continue to be felt for years to come.

While his journey was tragically brief, TJ’s legacy is one of brilliance, resilience, and boundless potential. The Department of Culture – Ministry of Creative Industries joins the artistic community in mourning his loss and celebrating the remarkable contributions he made to the world of theatre and beyond.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fellow artists. May his memory continue to inspire generations to come.”
