A vibrant delegation from Antigua and Barbuda has landed in Guadeloupe Saturday for an exciting seven-day cultural exchange, aiming to strengthen the creative and cultural ties between the two nations.
Leading the delegation is Ms. Petley O’Keiffe, Director of National Festivals, alongside Mr. Gilbert Laudat, Delegation Coordinator. The group features the Point Iron Band, cultural dancers, a soca artist, masqueraders, and various cultural characters. They are joined by representatives from the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority and the National Festival Marketing Team, highlighting their mission to promote Antigua Carnival, the country’s premier summer festival, on an international stage.
This initiative is part of an ongoing collaboration between Antigua and Barbuda and Guadeloupe, reinforcing their commitment to annual exchanges during each country’s Carnival celebrations. Last year, a delegation of 98 performers from Guadeloupe captivated audiences at Antigua’s Carnival with their traditional mas performances throughout St. John’s.
Director O’Keiffe emphasized the significance of this exchange: “Guadeloupe is known for its rich and authentic culture. Following the recent launch of Antigua Carnival, we have boldly reaffirmed Antigua and Barbuda’s status as a cultural powerhouse. Our goal here is to bring that same energy and passion to the Guadeloupean audience.”
This cultural exchange promises an immersive experience of Antigua and Barbuda’s mas, music, dance, and artistic expression, further deepening the unity and shared heritage between the two nations. The events lined up are expected to create lasting memories and enhance the cultural fabric of both islands.
They could have opened the invitation to the public and allow them to pay their own way.
I think it would have made more sense that way. Why limit the experience to just the people in tourism.
Anyway I don’t know what I’m saying so let me go back to bed
