The Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) Coast Guard proudly announced the commission of its latest asset, the 38-foot interceptor CG 11-1 SWORDFISH, during an official ceremony held on Tuesday.

This significant addition underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to maritime security and enhances the capabilities of the Coast Guard in safeguarding the nation’s waters.

Officials present at the ceremony emphasized the importance of the vessel in the ABDF Coast Guard’s mandate, which includes overseeing approximately 110,000 square kilometres of maritime territory.

The Coast Guard plays a crucial role in border protection, combating narcotics trafficking, and preventing illegal fishing activities.

Brigadier Telbert Benjamin, Chief of Defence Staff, expressed confidence that the new SWORDFISH interceptor will substantially improve the Coast Guard’s operational effectiveness.

The commission of CG 11-1 SWORDFISH demonstrates Antigua and Barbuda’s proactive approach to enhancing maritime safety and security, ensuring that the waters surrounding the islands remain protected against various threats.

As the ABDF Coast Guard continues its vital mission, the new interceptor stands as a symbol of the government’s dedication to maintaining a secure maritime environment for the benefit of all citizens.
