PM Browne inspects Booby Alley project (file photo)
Prime Minister Gaston Browne expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing construction of the Booby Alley Housing Project during a recent site visit in Point. Accompanied by Ambassador Clarence Pilgrim and representatives from the Chinese Embassy, Browne examined the developments made by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
During the tour, Browne, who has a background in contracting, engaged with the construction team, asking detailed questions about the project’s specifications, such as the height of the buildings and the depth of pylons ensuring their stability. His interest reflects a deep commitment to the project, which aims to provide much-needed housing solutions to the former residents of Booby Alley.
“This initiative is on track, adhering to both budget and timeline expectations,” the Prime Minister noted. The project is slated for completion by mid-2026, promising the delivery of 150 two-bedroom climate-resilient homes. According to Browne, these new residences will significantly enhance the living conditions and overall quality of life for the beneficiaries, showcasing a transformative vision for the community.
In addition to the housing initiative, the area is set to undergo substantial changes in the coming months. Plans for a tourism facility on Lower Newgate Street and the construction of a new headquarters for the Antigua and Barbuda Department of Marine Services and Merchant Shipping (ADOMS) are also underway. With these developments, significant revitalization efforts are anticipated in the vicinity, which should commence within the next 12 to 18 months.
Financed by the People’s Republic of China, the Booby Alley project is also set to feature a landscaped and secured site, ensuring a well-planned environment for its future residents. The Prime Minister’s enthusiasm highlights the project’s potential as a catalyst for positive change in the local community.
And the former residents of booby alley will be residing there again? Is that what the PM is saying or suggesting?… Because that’s not how it sounds to me..of course I could have misread between the lines.

Onw thing a our Gaston Browne is that when he puts his mind to something nobody can sway him. Not a soul. He had this project in mind and amidst protests and other pushback he really stood the test of time. Keep pushing. The project must finish
