Police Officer’s Firearms Trial Concludes with Defence Planning No-Case Submission

12 March 2025 - 06:51

Karim Warner

The trial against police officer Karim Warner wrapped up Saturday following testimony from the final witnesses in a case involving allegations of firearm discharge at an occupied vehicle.

Warner faces charges stemming from an incident on December 3, 2023, when he allegedly fired 12 shots at a white Toyota Mark X carrying two individuals near the Emerald Cove Resort in Willikies.

The confrontation reportedly originated from a dispute over a leased vehicle. According to case details, Warner attempted to reclaim the vehicle, but the male occupant refused to return it.

The investigation revealed bullet holes near a rear door handle and spent shell casings surrounding the vehicle.

Initially, Warner faced charges of discharging a firearm in a public place and assaulting both vehicle occupants. He entered not guilty pleas to all charges. During proceedings last month before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel, prosecutors withdrew the assault charges.

The male occupant did not appear for the trial and submitted a statement indicating his unwillingness to participate in the proceedings.

The court heard testimony from a total of eight witnesses throughout the trial, including the female complainant, a taxi driver, and multiple police officers.

With the prosecution now having closed its case, the defence has announced plans to file a no-case submission.

Warner is scheduled to return to court on May 13 for a decision.

  4. First of all I didn’t know the just system works on weekends. If that’s the case and the matter did conclude on Saturday I’m very impressed.
Secondly the fact that the make occupant of the vehicle refused to participate in the criminal proceedings says a whole lot.
The outcome of this trial should be very interesting

    • Why a no case submission?? I don’t pretend to understand..Did he or did he not fire 12 rounds at a vehicle with occupants in it?… Anyway in certain cases, a defense lawyer ‘s job is to make the guilty party go free..I am just saying

  7. Firing 12 shots at a vehicle with people inside is completely unacceptable. But what can we expect from them cops, tho? It raises so many questions about safety and accountability within the force. And like many other situations they walk free. MANNIE JAMES…BRUCE GREENAWAY… We expect law enforcement to protect and serve, not to act recklessly. I hope justice is served and that this serves as a wake-up call for better training and oversight.
