Antigua and Barbuda has been placed on a draft list of countries whose citizens could face new travel restrictions to the United States, according to reporting by the New York Times on a proposed Trump administration travel ban.

The twin-island nation appears on the so-called yellow tier of countries that would be given 60 days to address security concerns or potentially face more severe restrictions. Fellow Eastern Caribbean nations Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Lucia are also included in this category.

The draft proposal reportedly identifies 43 countries across three tiers of severity, representing a significant expansion of travel restrictions compared to those implemented during President Trump’s first term.

Countries on the yellow list must address perceived deficiencies in their security protocols within the 60-day window or risk being moved to more restrictive tiers. These concerns include inadequate passport security practices, failure to share traveller information with the United States, and the selling of citizenship to individuals from banned countries.

The citizenship-by-investment programs operated by Antigua and other Eastern Caribbean nations appear to be a particular focus of concern, as these programs have been criticized by US officials in the past for potentially providing alternative pathways to US entry for citizens of restricted countries.

More severe restrictions would apply to nations on the orange and red tiers. Haiti appears on the orange list of 10 countries whose citizens would face sharp restrictions but not a complete ban. Under this classification, affluent business travellers might still be permitted entry, while those seeking immigrant or tourist visas would face significant obstacles.

Cuba is the only Caribbean nation included in the most restrictive red tier, which would completely bar citizens from entering the United States. This tier includes 11 countries total, with the others being Afghanistan, Bhutan, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.

The State Department reportedly developed the list several weeks ago, and changes are expected before any final policy reaches the White House for approval.

I cannot say I am surpised. Every country has its sovereign right to protect its country and if we are not properly vetting the ppl who we give passports to, then we are creating a problem for others. So if we don’t do what is needed to come off this list. The US is right to ban us from travelling there. So get it right Mr. PM

Unruly one, I agree. Failure to vet those individuals is,in my humble opinion, the reason for the uptick in crime here in Antigua, but it’s not too late to look into their criminal past and revoke citizenship or residency.

While I TOTALLY LOATHE DONALD TRUMP, I am in agreement with this one! I HAVE BEEN SAYING FOR YEARS NOW, THAT WE NEED TO END THIS “Citizen by Investment,” program!! It’s a disaster waiting to happen. It is poorly implemented, and the revenue is not benefitting the citizenry!! END IT NOW!

But donald shit wants to sell gold card access to America for $5 million. And there are Antiguans who support this white ass trump.
I have see the ones who consider them selves to be white like the pholip shoul dude in Antigua who supposed to have some big position as a diplomat in Antigua supports trump against his own Antiguan people interest. He should be fired immediately.

You think trump would have someone working for him that would be in opposition to his policies?
Antiguans will be negatively affected by this trump policy. Any Antiguan that supports trump shouldn’t be working for Antigua in any official capacity. It’s hypocrisy.
And at some point it will encourage a conflict and a likely bias resulting in an Antigua potentially being deprived of an opportunity or benefit.
