Foreign Minister E.P Chet Greene addressing delegates at the 10th India- LAC Conclave taking place in New Delhi
Foreign Minister E.P. Chet Greene has emphasized the need for a formalized approach to enhance the relationship between India and LAC countries.
Greene was at the time a Special Ministerial Session on Strengthening India-Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Partnerships.
He says closer ties are essential in today’s shifting global landscape.
Minister Greene underscored the importance of increasing high-level visits and engagements. He proposed establishing bilateral committees dedicated to sectors such as agriculture, technology, and pharmaceuticals to improve understanding and foster partnerships.
“We need to forge stronger connections to ensure a productive collaboration between our regions,” he stated.
Echoing Minister Greene’s sentiments, India’s Minister for Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, highlighted the need for sectoral diversification.
He pointed out that moving beyond traditional trade areas is vital for a forward-looking business environment.
“High-end manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, digital infrastructure, and artificial intelligence are necessary for a future-ready economy. Strengthening institutional frameworks and eliminating non-tariff barriers are crucial steps in this process,” he remarked.
Furthermore, Goyal identified renewable energy as a significant area for collaboration, given that nearly 40% of the world’s lithium reserves are located in LAC countries.
He expressed India’s interest in partnering with LAC nations for joint lithium processing and mentioned potential collaboration on battery manufacturing and electric mobility.
India is a good friend to the Caribbean
Well done Mr Greene.
