It was a feeling of deja vu’ for many at the National Sports Awards on Saturday night, as it was 33 years ago at the same location that the first ever ceremony was held.
The celebrations were no different at the Royalton Resort as the nation’s elite athletes, officials and administrators gathered to shed a spotlight on the achievements of the past year in Antigua and Barbuda sports.
Ambassador Kimberly Percival reigned supreme once again, winning her third straight title as the Senior Sportswoman of the Year. Percival had tough competition from sprinter Joella Lloyd and swimmer Bianca Mitchell all of whom made it into the top 3.
It is her fifth title overall having won in 2016, 2017, 2022, 2023 and now 2024.
Cricketer, Alzarri Joseph was the 2024 Senior Sportsman of the Year edging out sprinter Cejhae Greene and Noah St. Clair from the Rifle Association.
The West Indies fast bowler previously won in 2016 and 2022.
The Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA) had much to celebrate as they were also named the Association of the Year.
Javelin thrower, Maliek Francis and swimmer TIivon Benjamin were the other finalists in the Junior Sportsmen category while table tennis star Stuti Kashyap and swimmer Eliie Shaw were the other two finalists for Junior Sportswomen.
Both Andrew and Fenton will be receiving a US $20 thousand scholarship grant by Cabinet. This scholarship will cover their tuition or any other fees for four years at a college or university of their choice.
