I am writing to express my outrage and concern regarding the alarming circumstances surrounding the recent case of a missing girl , 14-year-old Tanijah Cochrane , who, as it turns out, was out enjoying herself while her community was left in fear for her safety.

This incident raises serious questions about the responsibility of both children and parents in today’s society.

How is it possible for a young person to be unaccounted for, especially after having a detention on a Saturday? If there is no clear communication with parents about when to leave school, we are setting children up for dangerous situations.

The responsibility should be shared, but it seems we are failing in fostering an environment where accountability is prioritized.

Moreover, I cannot help but reflect on the nature of the relationships and communication between teachers and parents. In light of tragic events, such as the abduction and murder of Chantel Crump, how can anyone feel safe allowing our children to roam the streets late at night? The current state of affairs indicates a glaring lapse in guidance and oversight.

It is disheartening to think that any child could choose to be out at 11 PM, seemingly indifferent to the dangers that surround them, all while the community’s alarm bells ring loud. This behavior is not just reckless; it reflects a growing disregard for personal safety and community values.

To all parents and guardians out there – it’s crucial to engage in open conversations with your children. And to educators, let’s aim for better communication and support systems so that our youth understand the weight of their choices. We must work together to instill a sense of responsibility, awareness, and care for one another.

We cannot afford to be complacent. The safety of our children should always be our paramount concern. We must be proactive in ensuring that they understand the implications of their actions, fostering a community that values both safety and responsibility.

  1. I completely agree. I would like to add that children should be signed out to a registered, photo ID parent or guardian if a child is held after school for any reason. Additionally, police should be visible at bus stops in the community before school and around dismissal.

  2. I am sure that this school child was not found still in her School uniform when “found” I am also sure that the parents/guardians were aware that the delinquent had a detention that day Whose child dresses in school uniform to head to school on a Saturday??? We are always so eager to assign blame to every one else, on the case, that delinquent, her enablers and her parents/guardians. For once, leave the School, the teachers, the MinistryMinister the lnnocent public out of this! Since her precious, modern backside is too modern for a well-deserved assing, then she should be ordered to complete hours of public service on a Saturday, at the end of which she reports to the nearest Police Station where she is collected by an approved parent/guardian. Sick and tired of this nonsense!
JUSTICE ⚖️ FOR CHANTAL CRUMP, NOW!

    • Let’s get real on this matter, a child left her mother’s house for detention at school, in her uniform, after scaring a whole nation! She was found in a community far from home, pretty sure out of uniform. People need to understand that, after Chantel’s case nothing is taken lightly. Wanting to be away from home is okay but you can’t have people panicking and you’re okay
