PM Browne Announces 2025 National Census, Emphasizes Participation

26 March 2025 - 05:40

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has officially announced June 25, 2025, as Census Day for the 2025 National Census. In a call to action, PM Browne urged all residents to participate in this critical national exercise that has significant implications for the country’s development and planning.

During his address, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of unity among the citizens in supporting the census, framing it as a non-partisan issue essential for the nation’s future. He expressed disappointment over the absence of the Leader of the Opposition at the census launch and emphasized the necessity of showing collective support for such a pivotal initiative.

“This is not about political allegiance; it’s about coming together as a nation to ensure each resident is accounted for,” PM Browne remarked. He underscored that accurate census data is vital for healthcare planning, economic statistics like per capita income, and understanding public health trends such as morbidity and mortality rates.

Acknowledging concerns about participation, particularly among non-national communities, PM Browne reassured residents that census officers are bound by confidentiality and that participation will not affect individuals’ status in the country.

“It is crucial that we send a strong message to the population about the importance of this exercise. An inaccurate count could have lasting effects on our national policies and planning,” he added.

As the country prepares for Census Day, the Prime Minister is hopeful for widespread participation across all demographics, reinforcing that the outcomes will benefit all communities and help shape the future of Antigua and Barbuda.
