Recently, a dedicated group of professionals launched a transformative journey to enhance their expertise in Indoor Air Quality (IAQ).
Supported by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), this comprehensive training program spanned through March, equipping participants with essential knowledge and skills to improve air quality in various indoor settings, ultimately promoting healthier work environments.
Over four days of immersive online training, professionals from diverse institutions—including staff from Community-Based Health (CBH), the Barbuda Public Health Inspectorate, and stakeholders from the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center, as well as the Department of Analytical Services and APUA—actively participated in expert-led sessions.
Under the guidance of an experienced Public Health Engineer, the program focused on Indoor Environmental Quality and Ventilation in healthcare facilities, commercial enterprises, and residential buildings.
A standout feature of the program was the in-country visit by the Public Health Engineer, where participants had the opportunity to engage in interactive sessions, hands-on demonstrations, and fruitful discussions.
This invaluable experience provided practical insights into conducting IAQ inspections, ensuring that participants left with a well-rounded and actionable understanding of air quality management.
The in-country visit began in Barbuda, featuring inspections at various government institutions, followed by assessments across multiple facilities in Antigua.
This hands-on approach enabled participants to effectively bridge theory with practice, empowering them to implement impactful IAQ improvement strategies within their respective workplaces.
The training culminated on March 20th, ending on a high note as participants expressed renewed confidence in their enhanced skills.
Their commitment to applying the knowledge gained underlines the lasting impact of this initiative.
Do we ever see any results or benefits from ALL these programs
I hope this becomes a regular initiative. It’s inspiring to see how different institutions can unite to solve such an important issue.
Huge thanks to the experts who led the sessions. Their experience and knowledge must have been invaluable in guiding the participants. The real-world insights shared during the in-country visits are priceless.
