In a shocking revelation that has sent ripples through the political landscape, three Opposition MPs—Algernon Watts, Kelvin Shugy Simon, and Richard Lewis—have come forward to address the internal turmoil plaguing the United Progressive Party (UPP). Their statements highlight a deepening crisis at the party’s core, once a formidable force in Antigua and Barbuda’s politics.
At the center of their concerns is Opposition Leader Jamal Pringle, whose leadership is increasingly being questioned. They claim they were left out of important party activities like rallies and meetings.
Lewis, speaking candidly on the popular radio show “The Snake Pit,” described the party’s atmosphere as “toxic,” stating that the strain had compelled him to remain silent to protect his mental health.
His comments reflect an unsettling reality within the UPP, as members grapple with their frustrations in a party once celebrated for its strength and unity.
The MPs’ decision to speak out marks a significant moment in UPP history, showcasing a growing rift that could have lasting implications for the party’s future.
Meanwhile, Simon, speaking specifically about the recent rally at Thwaites Corner, said he felt disrespected because he knew little about the event.
Well well ….smh told them already it’s not everyone who apply to run for a party is for the party some of them go in to gain money to fill their pockets …corruption
As far as i am concerned, you guys are just a group of power hungry mongrels who are all seeking leadership. Allow the young man to focus and do what he has to do for the good of the party. Fed up with that nonsense right now. Papa Bird never went to High School of College but he had the vision for our country. Allow Pringle Jack.
These times are too crucial to “allow Pringle, Jack”. For its own survival, the Party needs mature, honest, truly dedi ated men and women to take the country toward. Regrettably, I do not see this in the almost defunct UPP nor can I with the seeming power hungry jokers who are trying to present themselves as a viable option. I’ll rather remain with the party of the masses, the A(B)LP. They truly represent all classes of our evolving society. I have neither the time nor the patience to accommodate wannabes at this time!
Let me just sit back and see how this unfolds
Call the election now Mr. PM
Jamal needs to get rid of all these rogues from his party and start fresh. Gaston had warned Jamal about these rotten elements within his party. Now the they showing themselves. Jamal you need to do a cleansing. The three terrible men came looking for sympathy. None given! MOVE from our party
