A man from Ottos has been sentenced to five months in prison after pleading guilty to domestic violence charges involving his former girlfriend.
Hopeton Roach received the sentence earlier this week after admitting to assault, unlawful entry, and possession of a weapon with intent to commit a crime.
The court heard that despite their relationship ending last year due to alleged abuse, Roach continued to provide transportation for the victim to and from her workplace.
On March 22, 2025, the situation turned violent when Roach arrived uninvited at the victim’s home.
After forcing his way inside, he confronted her aggressively, grabbed her by the hair, and forced her to the ground. The assault escalated when Roach obtained a kitchen knife and made threats toward the woman.
The attack was interrupted by the arrival of the victim’s brother, prompting Roach to set aside the weapon. After leaving the residence, he reportedly attempted to re-enter through multiple windows without success. The victim subsequently contacted authorities to report the incident.
During Monday’s hearing, Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel sentenced Roach to five months for assault, one month for weapon possession, and one month for unlawful entry. These sentences will be served concurrently, resulting in a total prison term of five months.
These court stories are always so depressing đ
Men are so so dumb. You are in a relationship. You separate for what ever reason. Yet you still taking her to and from work. Don’t you realize the woman is playing you, using you? Now you realize you not getting back there, you want to damage her.. well, you have five months to cool off.. the question is who’s taking her to work now??
Only five months??????
