The government of Antigua and Barbuda has committed to covering the funeral expenses of 9-year-old Chantel Crump, whose tragic death has left her community and the entire country in mourning.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne met with Chantel’s family on Friday to express his condolences and support during this difficult time.

She will be burried at he Anglican Church.

Chantel was reported abducted in March near her home and was discovered days later, sadly, already deceased. As the family awaits the results of an autopsy conducted on Friday to determine the cause of her death, the community is grappling with the shocking news.

In connection with this tragic case, 20-year-old Angela Mejai has been arrested and charged with Chantel’s murder. The investigation continues as authorities work to provide answers for the grieving family and community.

This incident has sparked conversations around child safety and community vigilance, emphasizing the need for enhanced protective measures for children.

The Prime Minister’s visit and the government’s support for the family reflect a commitment to addressing the grievances of the community in the wake of this heartbreaking loss.

    • That’s good news. It’s the most they can do considering they are bot affording ber a state funeral. I heard Max Hurst saying it is not normal to do that and he is correct. Well good ABLP. Also the family needs financial help.

  8. At least the family is receiving something of benefit. Even though we all can’t come to terms with the untimely death of this 9-Year-Old we are thankful that the government is doing something after all. She should receive the best of everything.

  9. I reiterate my call for a continued investigation by the new Commissioner and his men that is thorough and fair, despite the incoherent rant of some cerebrally challenged nobody who should indeed remain Anonymous!
A THOROUGH AND FAIR INVESTIGATION INTO THE ABDUCTION AND MURDER OF CHANTEL CRUMP.
    JUSTICE FOR CHANTEL CRUMP, NOW!

  10. Are we setting a precedent that any child killed in the community will be buried by the government?

Parents will expect the same if anything unfortunate happens to their child in the future.

I listened to emotional calls for a state funeral with amazement and while I shed tears at Chantel’s death and understand that the family need help, the rest of the world organises an online go fund me when money is needed for funerals.

We should be doing the same. Let the grieving public contribute!

Public funds should go towards public issues.
