Caretaker for St John’s Rural West, Michael Joseph, has issued a statement, condemning what he called an attack on the family of the late Chantel Crump.

In a social media post, a woman called Jessica Cassandra Roland shared a post claiming that Crump’s family was “greedy” and trying to solicit money on her behalf.

“In the recently levied accusations against the family of Chantel Crump, I must come to the defense of the family, particularly Marsha and Ernest Crump,” Michael said in his statement.

He said while some individuals are attempting to portray these parents, who are painfully mourning the loss of their youngest child, as “money-hungry parents of a murdered child,” my experience is quite different.

“Since the inception of the missing report for Chantel, I have been working closely with the family—long before the nation knew it was an abduction—and to this day, I can honestly say that no member of the family has ever asked, hinted at, or indirectly suggested any request for financial assistance. The only request made by the family was for my assistance in organizing the candlelight vigil, which I agreed to sponsor of my own volition,” he added.

Michael said while he refrains from swearing on behalf of individuals, “I am saddened that we are so quick to judge that we believe the family has time to be opportunistic while they are battling to come to grips with the unfortunate reality of their loss,” he added.

“The public is reminded that what we see isn’t always what it appears to be” he concluded.

This woman has a history of being a scammer. Using a case like this is crazy tho. you owe the parents an apology and compensation for their name.

Have her arrested and taken before the court. This is a very bad case, Chantel is deceased and you’re bringing her family down by your foolishness

Give the people space and room to breathe. Just let them be and let their child rest.
