Cabinet Discusses Comprehensive Road Repair Plan Funded by New User Fee

10 April 2025 - 16:50

In yesterday’s Cabinet meeting, officials dedicated significant time to reviewing a strategic plan to repair the nation’s roadways.

The initiative will be financed through a $100 million loan, which will be repaid using a newly imposed user fee.
The Ministry of Works is expected to publish a detailed list of the roadways earmarked for repair, along with anticipated commencement and completion dates.

This list will prioritize the roads based on an agreement reached by the Cabinet, ensuring that the most critical areas receive attention first.

Officials acknowledged that the $100 million budget will not cover all necessary repairs, noting that as more contributions are generated from the user fee, additional roads will be identified for upgrades and repair.

The Cabinet also emphasized the importance of coordinating these roadworks with the APUA Water and Electricity Divisions.

This collaboration will ensure that old, leaking pipes can be replaced simultaneously with road repairs, addressing the issue of water loss and high production costs associated with maintaining the precious resource.

The rollout of this initiative signifies a proactive approach to infrastructure improvement and resource management. It has the potential to greatly enhance the quality of roadways while also addressing vital water resource issues.

Motorists and residents can expect more updates as the Ministry of Works unveils the prioritized list of roads and the planned timelines for repair works.

  2. Sometimes it’s more economical to completely demolish something and rebuild from scratch as opposed to sugar caking it as would be the case in this instance. Stop wasting precious time and money on patching. Just tear it all up and do it right. Believe me it will save money and headaches in the long run. And may I recommend that the Cuban road workers assist our public works in this endeavor for they are the best in the Caribbean when it comes to building roads. ( or sol I’ve been told).

  4. $100 million is a big budget, but will we actually see long-term results, or are we patching potholes again before the 2026 elections? I mean we’ve heard about road repairs before but let’s see if they stick to the plan this time.
