Antigua and Barbuda is gearing up to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGOM) in 2026, with plans well underway to ensure a successful event.
Specific dates and the overarching theme for the meeting are yet to be announced, but preparations are already in motion.

Recently, a delegation of ten representatives from the Commonwealth Office, along with personnel from the Metropolitan Police and Palace Security, convened with the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda to share their expertise and experiences from previous Commonwealth gatherings.

Their insights provided assurances that all logistical aspects of the upcoming meeting will be meticulously planned.

The meeting is expected to attract a significant number of delegates, with estimates ranging from 6,000 to 7,000 attendees, including Presidents, Prime Ministers, Foreign Ministers, and other key figures from across the Commonwealth. Various forums will be held during the meeting, such as a Business Forum, Women’s Forum, Youth Forum, and People’s Forum, each projected to welcome three to four hundred participants.

To ensure security and proper planning, Buckingham Palace will be dispatching a special police unit to work closely with local authorities in the two-week lead-up to the event. Notably, arrangements are also being made for King Charles and Queen Camilla’s participation in the proceedings.

A special Spouses’ Programme—led by Minister Maria Browne—will include an excursion to the picturesque island of Barbuda, which may also see a visit from the King.

Among the exciting activities scheduled are a concert featuring top global artists and a T-10 cricket match, promising to offer delegates a memorable experience while highlighting the cultural heritage of Antigua and Barbuda.

As the nation prepares to welcome the Commonwealth community, citizens and officials alike are optimistic about the opportunities and exposure this prestigious event will bring.

Massive event, yeah. but I hope infrastructure, traffic, and local services are being seriously considered. 7,000 guests is no joke. Alfa Nero has damaged our 2025 reputation, let’s make these people feel like they never left their country.

While the economic boost is welcome, I hope the government addresses infrastructure and service challenges that come with hosting such a large event.
