PRESS RELEASE

St. John’ s, Antigua — 15 April 2025 — The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) acknowledges the liquidation notice for Caribbean Airport Services Ltd. (CAS), published in the 3 April 2025 edition of the Antigua and Barbuda Official Gazette.

The notice requires all creditors of the company to submit their names, addresses, and particulars of their debts or claims to the court-appointed liquidator, Mr. Christopher S. Sambrano of Barbados, by 30 April 2025.

Following the appointment of the liquidator on 11 March 2025, the ABWU promptly began taking the necessary steps to secure terminal benefits owed to workers by the company.

In March, the Union engaged Mr. Sambrano and subsequently filed a claim in the High Court for severance payments. The liquidator has since confirmed that the claim will not be contested, and that every effort will be made to fulfill the company’s financial obligations to affected workers.

ABWU General Secretary, Senator David Massiah, reassured workers that the Union is doing everything in its power to safeguard their interests.

“At this stage, we are actively engaging the liquidator to secure the best possible outcome,” Massiah stated.

The Union hopes to meet with the current and former CAS workers next week, following continued discussions with the liquidator. Workers are encouraged to stay tuned to the Union’s official communication platforms for details of an official meeting.

  1. Where’s the government in all this? CAS workers kept the airport running during hard times. These people deserve more than just quiet liquidation notices

  2. We gave years to this company. I just want what I’m owed and to move on. Thank you to the Union for not leaving us in the dark.

  3. Glad the Union filed for severance early and that the liquidator won’t contest it. Let’s hope this doesn’t drag on for months like other cases we’ve seen.

    • Yes indeed. The Union needs to play a more increased role in matters at hand. Also they need more power.
