PRESS RELEASE
15 April, 2025 — Ambassador Clarence E. Pilgrim, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Barbuda Affairs, paid an official visit to the Consulate of the Dominican Republic in Antigua and Barbuda. The visit was made in light of the tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday April 8, 2025, at a nightclub in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, which claimed multiple lives and left several others injured.
Ambassador Pilgrim signed the condolence book and extended sympathies on behalf of the Government and People of Antigua and Barbuda.
In his message, Ambassador Pilgrim wrote:
“In this time of national sorrow, we extend our deepest condolences to the people of the Dominican Republic. We stand in solidarity with you and share in your grief. May you find strength in the love of your nation and the support of your Caribbean neighbours. Our prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.”
Her Excellency Yolanda Alexandra Victoria, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Antigua and Barbuda, graciously received Ambassador Pilgrim and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the kind gesture.
“This demonstration of solidarity touches us deeply,” said Ambassador Victoria. “It is comforting to know that in moments of pain, we are not alone. The support from Antigua and Barbuda strengthens the enduring friendship between our nations.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Barbuda Affairs remains committed to fostering regional unity and continues to extend its heartfelt sympathies to the Government and People of the Dominican Republic.
This is what true solidarity looks like. In times of tragedy, standing together as sister nations is more than just diplomacy it’s humanity. Thank you to Ambassador Pilgrim and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for leading with empathy and compassion. This is exactly how you lead politically
Symbolism matters, but let’s also make sure regional cooperation leads to more than condolences. Whether it’s safety reforms, cultural exchanges, or crisis response, moments like this should inspire more proactive partnerships across the region. While I sometimes question how our Ministry of Foreign Affairs operates, I can’t criticize this. Offering condolences in person shows respect and maturity on the global stage. Well done, Ambassador Pilgrim.
Tragedy knows no borders and it’s comforting to see our leaders standing in strong with our neighboring countries. Diplomatic moments like these may appear small to our eyes but they often build strong regional ties as the time passes.
Times like these should be a reminder that we are all connected. Whether in tourism, trade or tragedy. The Caribbean is a melting pot and once we stand together we will be stronger
Totally agree. I am hoping that she is not playing a part in getting a minimal sentence for her country woman. Justice for Chantel
Very nice gesture from Clarence E. Pilgrim.
