Prime Minister Gaston Browne has extended condolences to the family of the late Chinese national who was electrocuted on the Booby Alley Project in Pointe earlier today.

“I am very saddened to hear about this unfortunate incident in which one of the workers lost his life. I pray for the speedy and full recovery of the other who survived the electrocution and extend sincerest condolences to the bereaved family,” Browne tells Antigua.news

The incident took place shortly after 9 am while the workers were erecting a scaffold that inadvertently made contact with overhead power lines.

Emergency Medical Services quickly responded to the scene and transported the two men to Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre for treatment.

Sadly, one of the workers succumbed to his injuries approximately two hours after arriving at the hospital.

The other worker, who was also electrocuted, is currently receiving medical care and is reported to be in stable condition.

  1. Poor man. Imagine you’re working in a far country and your family all the way in China has to know about this. So many questions are at play here. Like didn’t they know about these wires? How is it he got electrocuted. What about saftey measures. Any there? Should the other staff be concerned. Such sadness. I hope his family will be fine

  4. Let’s Not Lose Sight of What Truly Matters

In times of tragedy, our humanity should be louder than our politics.

The recent, heartbreaking loss of a foreign national—someone who was here working to help develop our country—deserves our full compassion and respect. This individual was part of a team dedicated to national progress. His life, his service, and the pain now carried by his loved ones should not be overshadowed by political noise.

Yes, leadership should always be held accountable—but not every moment is a stage for partisan attacks. There is a time for critique, and there is a time for unity. This is a time to reflect on the value of a life lost while in the line of duty, not to twist tragedy into political ammunition.

When we rush to blame or bash based on personal or political preference, we risk losing sight of the bigger picture—the human cost. This was someone’s son, friend, colleague. He came to our shores to contribute to our nation’s growth and, in doing so, paid the ultimate price.

Let’s show respect. Let’s honor the life that was lost. And let’s stand together, even if just for a moment, as a nation in mourning—not as political sides at war.

We owe at least that much.
