Mehul Choksi’s legal team has announced plans to renew their bail application after a Belgian court rejected it.
Choksi, an Antiguan and Barbudan citizen by investment, is wanted by India for his alleged involvement in a 2-billion-dollar Ponzi scheme.
Advocate Vijay Agrawal, representing Choksi in Delhi, stated that they intend to submit the renewed plea soon, citing significant flaws in the extradition request received from Indian authorities.
“We have identified numerous gaps and concealments in the extradition request and will be providing additional material to support our case,” Agrawal elaborated.
Choksi, a 65-year-old diamantaire and promoter of the Gitanjali Group, was apprehended in Belgium on April 12 while seeking medical treatment. Agrawal emphasized that his client poses no flight risk, which was one of the key arguments against his bail.
The backdrop of this legal battle dates back to 2018 when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed charges against Choksi, his nephew Nirav Modi, and others in connection with an alleged loan fraud involving Punjab National Bank (PNB).
Both Modi and Choksi fled India in January 2018, just weeks before PNB lodged a formal complaint with the CBI.
Cant be mad at thr lawyer, he had to work for gis money. Choski is guilty and everyone knows it. Just his money keeping hin on thr outside.
Tired of the back and forth with this man. Either free him or hurry put him away.
I thought when you get yourself tired up in these legal cases they take your travel documents. I mean the lawyer is right to request bail. Anything for a living ent. But I don’t understand why this case is just so long
