Plans to build a new school in Barbuda are moving forward.
This is according to Chief of staff in the Prime Minister’s Office Lionel Hurst.

Hurst explained the new school would be erected at the Louie Hill site. A change from the original intentions of rebuilding the Holy Trinity School after being destroyed by Hurricane Irma back in 2017 with funds offered by the Dominican Republic.

“There is a money sitting in the treasury at the moment that is intended for this Barbuda school project. And it will happen. We’re thinking of placing the Barbuda school where the Louis Hill project is going to be built. That way residents who take up quarters in Louis Hill will have easy access for their primary school students to attend a new primary school or an additional school.”, Hurst added.

The Holy Trinity school was refurbished but the funds were raised by the Barbuda Council.

Instead, conceptual plans were submitted for approval for the new school, which the Cabinet subsequently endorsed.

The proposed new location at Louie Hill is slightly elevated and part of a wider development zone that will also house new residences and businesses.
