Sir Rob Barrett
On May 23rd, dozens are expected to flock to the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium for the official memorial service of hotelier Sir Robert Barrett.
Sir Barrett passed away on March 6 at the age of 84.
He died surrounded by his family and friends.
In addition to the Verandah, his hotels include the Pineapple Beach Club, Hammock Cove, St James Club, Galley Bay Resort, and the Jolly Beach Resort.
His investments in the country, which total more than US$500 million, have been a driving force for local economic growth and have generated employment opportunities for thousands of people over the past four decades.
In 2023 on Independence Day, Sir Robert was conferred with a knighthood in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the tourism sector.
It was because of those significant contributions and his title why the business mogul was granted an official memorial by the government.
Several government officials are expected to be in attendance.
The service begins at 10 a.m.
