Teachers’ Union Continues Strike Monday Despite Payment Progress

The ongoing industrial action by the Teachers’ Union is set to persist into Monday, as members remain steadfast in their demands. This decision comes in spite of the Education Ministry’s recent announcement that it has delivered nine outstanding cheques to eligible teachers.

While the Ministry strives to address the payment backlog, the A&BUT has yet to disclose how many teachers still await compensation.

As the strike continues, parents and students are left in uncertainty regarding the future of their education while the union seeks to resolve the lingering issues.

Further updates are expected as the union evaluates its next steps amidst the changing circumstances.

Below is a letter sent by the union today.

  1. Look at a bunch of wicked people. The PM warned the teachers not to get involved in the Union and its politics. You mean to tell me, after the ministry of education paid every outstanding dollar on Friday…my child must miss another day or week of school. PM, get rid of these teachers. They are not about national development. Bunch of wicked charlatans

    • The same wicked people, that take our monies and buy your child lunch, snacks, water and school essentials when you couldn’t!

That same money we are waiting on goes back into the same children in our classes to benefit!

      • Put your name. Not my child lunch. Not my child snacks and not my child essentials. Some teachers are wicked and i said what i said now deal with it. Money hungry puppet masters. Following a political motivated. You are trying to tell me that 6 teachers, because of discrepancies, did not recieve their money and you shut down the school system affecting 1300 plus students. Damn devilish set of teachers. Most of you all don’t even care about these kids. Working for a check. Not working because you love children. The government need to weed yall lazy assess out of the education system. Dumb stupid airheads.

      • You seem to know how teaching go so maybe you come get a teaching job. Teachers are by no means lazy. In every job, yes, there are always a few persons who don’t come close to the mark of what they ort to be, but by and large all the teachers I know will over and beyond the call of duty. Just Saturday, I was school with 5th formers and yet some na show up.

Lay blame where blame belongs. Teachers do not pay themselves but politicians certainly do. They make sure they get their raise and backpay in short order. Civil service is still waiting on theirs to be completed.

Nobody should wait 7 years to be paid for their work.

    • We should fet rid if the PM and Min of Ed ARE the wicked set of people! Do you care that since 2018 teachers have not been paid? Do you care that teachers give up the holidays and weekends to to teach your children all year long especially when they are preparing for Spell Bound, Jr Science Quiz, Debate, CXC to name a few? Do you call them wicked when you send them to school without materials and teachers have to supply? Who is wicked to have schools that lack adequate security and have to sit in to ensure that infrasctructure is maintained? Who are the wicked set of people who expect that teachers should babysit their children and would want teachers to be there for their children for as many hours on the clock face? Who are irresponsible when parents refuse to pick up reports, and come to school to curse teachers? Who is wicked when from the PM and every Tom and Jerry denigrate teachers so much that they lose their respect in the community? Once teachers were held in high regard in this society because they are responsible for erecting the foundation of nation building! Now the politicians are the ones getting that respect however nefarious they are@

      • High esteem my black a$$$$. Same teachers you see in carnival with all their backsides outside. Give me a break. Respect is earned not demanded. The same teachers are on stage twerking, knowing their students are in the audience. HYPOCRISY. Don’t ,let me start to call the names of some of these teachers…talking about want respect. Go respect yourselves first

  2. Yet another week of school? Do our students have to suffer this much? Is the ministry not seeing this? Gaston only trying to protect hisself

  5. I stand in Solidarity with these teachers. About time the government is taught a lesson. And Kwane, don’t be under here blaming teachers. Put it in the ugly mustache man yall put on those pedestals. Dumb set of Antiguans. If Gaston cared about the well being of your children he would’ve ensured that these monies owed were paid. Hmmmmm. They alone know what they doing with money. Now you’re here to help them wicked people we call politicians

  6. We demand a press statement from the government on this matter! This is heighten nonesense and we can’t continue looking on from the outside. Teachers are yet to strike again, this means students will lose yet another day of learning as exams approach. Well well. Does the government care? A question that’s is needing to ask

  7. I checked education officials up to today and they advised that all allowances were paid.

As I said before. I have no difficulty with protestation, but their actions are disproportional; putting our children’s education at risk.

Political activism should never take precedent over principle and ethics.

  8. I believe there should be a compromise and teachers should return to school. It is NOT that serious. A handfull of teachers unpaid and the nation suffers. Not even the nurses behave in such a bad way. I am starting to believe there is an agenda

  9. I don’t like what I am reading. What is all this hostility about? Why are we so harsh as a people? We should be able to agree to disagree. I agree with the PM. You can’t hold an entire school system hostage because you are caught up un your feelings. This is not how people who love THEIR COINTRY BEHAVE

  10. These teachers are heartless. Payment for a handful of teachers and you holding people children hostage because of that?
    God is not a police

  11. God is not a police indeed. Like i said on another post the teachers are following the leader who is clearly taking them straight to hell
