
Former MP Hilson ‘Brother B’ Baptiste

Funeral services for former Member of Parliament Hilson ‘Brother B’ Baptiste will be held on May 21 at 1pm at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, following his passing last month at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre. He was 77 years old.
Baptiste, who died at 11:42am on April 23 according to family members, leaves behind a legacy of dedicated public service spanning decades. First elected to the House of Representatives in 1994 after beginning his political career with the United National Democratic Party, Baptiste went on to represent St. Mary’s South constituency for four consecutive terms after being re-elected in 1999, 2004, and 2009 as a member of the United Progressive Party (UPP).
Throughout his political career, Baptiste served in various ministerial capacities including Tourism, Agriculture, and Social Transformation. He was widely respected for his straightforward approach and genuine commitment to the people he served.
Beyond his political contributions, Baptiste was also known as a chef, entrepreneur, and community mentor. Born on October 14, 1947, his influence extended well beyond the political arena, touching lives through his various pursuits and people-first leadership philosophy.
