In a decisive move, the Cabinet has proposed plans to compensate public school students for lost classroom time due to the recent teachers’ strike.

Teachers refused to teach students for over a week in protest over outstanding payments owed to a handful of educators

The decision comes after significant discussions regarding the strike’s adverse effects on students’ educational experiences, particularly in Primary Schools.

The strike, which revolved around outstanding allowances predominantly affecting Secondary and higher-level teachers, inadvertently disrupted the learning of younger students who were left without essential teaching contact for six crucial days.

Cabinet members expressed concern over the strike’s disproportionate impact, stating, the essence of the teaching profession was compromised as students missed vital instruction.

To address this disruption, the Cabinet has proposed extending the school day, allowing students to regain valuable learning time before the end of the term.

Officials believe this initiative will help minimize the educational gap caused by the strike and reinforce the importance of consistent classroom instruction.

    • Utter nonsense. How we are not hearing about the after classes that teachers facilitate to prepare our children for national assessment and CXC without being paid! How many teachers go shopping for items for projects and experiments for our children without being compensated? The good teachers ensure that no child is left behind . These stories go unrecognized. But because they have the back bone to take a stand unlike some of you weaklings yall bashing them. But we will always remember the teachers for their stand. They have set a standard. Careful how you handle teachers. I respect them for their ee
