In a media statement released moments ago, the Antigua & Barbuda Department of Marine Services and Merchant Shipping (ADOMS) addressed concerns surrounding allegations that the HC Opal, one of its flagged vessels, is carrying arms and ammunition intended for the Israel Defence Forces and private Israeli defence contractors.

Highlighting the nation’s commitment to international law, ADOMS reaffirmed its adherence to the Government of Antigua and Barbuda’s policy regarding the transport of military equipment.

This stance aligns with the obligations outlined in United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/RES/Es-10/24 and the United Nations Human Rights Council Resolution A/HRC/RES/55/28. The government declared that neither it nor its entities will facilitate the sale, transfer, or diversion of arms and military supplies to Israel.

In accordance with Information Notice 2025-001, the government has stated that any Antigua & Barbuda-flagged vessel found violating these prohibitions may face de-registration under the Merchant Shipping Act 2006. This is a clear message from the government emphasizing its commitment to maintaining peace and upholding international standards.

ADOMS has urged all vessel operators and maritime stakeholders to comply with these regulations to avoid any legal consequences and to contribute to the prevention of conflict and the promotion of human rights.
