U.S. Court Quashes All Subpoenas in So-Called “Corruption Discovery” Matter

PRESS STATEMENT

– Ruling fully vindicates Prime Minister Browne, his family, and Government officials –

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda welcomes today’s decision of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, which quashed every subpoena issued at the request of Yulia Guryeva-Motlokhov, daughter of the sanctioned Russian national who owned the super-yacht Alfa Nero, against Prime Minister Gaston Browne, members of his family, senior Government officers, and several private companies.

In a detailed Memorandum Opinion and Order, Judge Jesse M. Furman held that the applicant “failed to meet the statutory requirements for relief” under 28 U.S.C. § 1782. As a result, the Court:

·       Quashed the subpoenas in their entirety;

·       Vacated its earlier ex parte order that had authorised the subpoenas; and

·       Directed the applicant’s counsel to arrange the prompt destruction of any material already produced.

This ruling confirms what the Government has said from the outset: the application had no merit, no legal foundation, and no legitimate purpose. It was a fishing expedition aimed at harassing the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, its Prime Minister, and others through false and malicious allegations.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne stated: “Today’s decision is complete vindication. The Court has confirmed that these subpoenas were never justified. We will always defend the integrity of our institutions and the good name of those who serve them.”

Attorney-General Sir Steadroy Benjamin added: “The Court’s order speaks for itself: the applicant could not satisfy even the basic legal threshold. We trust this outcome will deter any future attempts to weaponise foreign court processes against Antigua and Barbuda.”

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda remains firmly committed to transparency, the rule of law, and the highest standards of public accountability. At the same time, it will vigorously oppose any effort—domestic or foreign—to tarnish the reputations of its officials or to coerce the nation into abandoning decisions made in the best interests of the people of Antigua and Barbuda.

  3. It’s easy to call for unity now, after decisions have been made and policies pushed through without proper consultation. If the government truly wants peace, they need to show respect—not just extend invitations after the fact.

  4. Devon Carter, just get to the back of the class next to Casroy Charles, Jamale Pringle, Chakku Symister, and defreitas. The UPP once again has exposed its filthy behind for all the world to see – a party of black self-haters, unwilling to support a government whose well articulated aim is to erase the socio-economic barriers that have impeded the progress of Antiguans and Barbudans across the board. The UPP does NOT wish to see that happen. Their glorification depends on keeping the poor, poorest, least educated, understandably most angry and therefore easily manipulated by those who have been described as ‘elitist’. What elitist!!! They love that term because it places them on a social scale above the majority. What a fallacy! Examine closely their inherited horns! No different to yours or mine. The party chairman, for example is a ghetto born child of a shopkeeper. Her face is indelibly wrinkled from years of turning up her ghetto nose to her fellow ghetto villagers whose precious pennies made possible her attendance at the Chtist the King High School. What elitist??¿ NONE of the other lesser ranked foot soldiers can even lay claim to having had even a semblance of
    superior socialization that was not representatiive of the rest of is proud Antiguan/Barbdan majority.
    This is just a jungle of desperate wannabes who have so little respect for the rest of us that they feel that the simply prepare a diet of lies and character assassinations belteving, in their ignorance that the public is so dumb that they can “tell them anything….they’ve been wired to hungrily consume any and all crap we excrete daily. I hope that their collusion with the enemy against their own country was worth it. This must be archived for future generations

    • Faithful, I am in total agreement with you Like a family, we Antiguans can argue amongst ourselves but when it comes to bmoutsiders, that’s another story…that’s when we ban together and fight them off not help them in their attempt to destroy our family. Shame on all who gave aid to the outsiders in trying to bring down our Prime Minister Browne.
