On July 21, 2025, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Antigua and Barbuda, in collaboration with the Antigua and Barbuda National Public Library, hosted the opening ceremony of the themed photo exhibition titled “Remembering History, Cherishing Peace.”

The event commemorated the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Her Excellency Ambassador Zhang Yanling and Library Director Mrs. Ryllis Mannix delivered remarks and jointly unveiled the exhibition. More than 100 attendees including youth campers, educators, and members of the public participated in the event.

In her remarks, Ambassador Zhang highlighted the historical significance of the 80th anniversary. She emphasized that the Chinese people made enormous sacrifices to achieve victory as the main Eastern battlefield of World War II. She pointed out the importance of remembering history and called on the international community to uphold peace, mutual respect, and cooperation.“History is the best textbook,” she stated. “Only by learning from history can we shape a better future.”

Mrs. Mannix reaffirmed the relevance of the exhibition, noting that the victory symbolized the resilience of the Chinese people and the strength of global unity during wartime. She encouraged young people to learn from the past and commit themselves to building a peaceful and prosperous future.“The triumphs on the Chinese battlefield played a key role in the global fight against fascism,” she noted. “Standing at this new historical juncture, we must honor the legacy of our forebears and draw strength from history.”

The exhibition provided a valuable educational opportunity for young visitors, who explored the historical images and narratives and also to continue to foster mutual understanding and cultural appreciation between China and Antigua and Barbuda.
