Activist Bonnietha John Calls for Action Against Litter Crisis in Barbuda

Activist Bonnietha John

Civic activist Bonnietha John is urging the Barbuda community to confront the increasing litter problem on the island.

After a recent clean-up operation, she emphasized the need for greater awareness and accountability, stating that it is unacceptable for residents and volunteers to continuously clean up after others who litter.

John advocates for the appointment of litter wardens and the enforcement of fines for violators, arguing that these measures are essential to preserve Barbuda’s environment for future generations.

Having recently run for a council seat, she is also calling on elected officials to take responsibility in addressing this pressing issue.

    • Apex Jones, it seems like you have a problem with Barbudans!.litter is a cultural problem in the entire Caribbean region, and even globally. Instead of calling people lazy, why not offer a constructive solution?. You sound so dumb I wonder if you even have a solution

  3. Bonnietha is absolutely right. We can’t expect a clean island if people keep dumping garbage and expecting others to clean it up. Time for accountability!

  4. This is a leadership issue as much as a community one. Bonnietha is right to push elected officials, they must lead by example.

  6. Bonnietha John is right to sound the alarm on the litter crisis in Barbuda. Our twin island’s pristine environment is not only a national treasure but also the backbone of our tourism. We need to act now to protect it, or we risk losing both our beauty and our economic future.
