Minister of Creative Industries Daryll Matthew has expressed his enthusiasm regarding what he described as a “very successful” Carnival 2025. He emphasized that the festival has reached a point where it is enjoying the fruits of years of diligent planning and effort.

He told reporters on Wednesday that he was “quite pleased with Carnival 2025”.

According to Matthew, this success is the result of significant preparation and teamwork with various government entities, including the Tourism Authority, alongside the media and corporate partners.

“It required genuine engagement from the people of Antigua and Barbuda to embrace this festival fully.”

He highlighted that this year’s celebration came together beautifully, showcasing top-notch music, vibrant pageantry, and strong public support, which was evident from the record attendance at numerous events.

When asked about the highlights of Carnival 2025, Minister Matthew pointed to the overwhelming participation from the community.

He was particularly taken aback by the turnout at the Calypso Semi-Finals, which traditionally does not attract large crowds.

He mentioned, “This year, we transformed the Semi-Finals into a ‘cooler fete,’ similar to the Party Monarch semis, and the turnout was astonishing.”

While large crowds at events like the Melting Pot have become commonplace, he was especially pleased with the enthusiastic support for the Calypso Monarch competition this year, noting that it indicates that “Calypso is alive and well.”
