Work is well underway at the Old Holberton Hospital site, where a new $21 million Renal Centre is set to transform kidney care in Antigua and Barbuda.
This transformative facility, partly funded by CDB and valued at $21 million (inclusive of the cost of acquiring top class equipment), will provide world-class kidney care services right here at home. Health officials say it will not only improve services for local patients but also position Antigua and Barbuda as a regional hub for specialized kidney care.

Once operational, the centre is expected to ease the strain on Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, meet the growing demand for dialysis, and spare many patients the emotional and financial burden of seeking treatment abroad.
The Renal Centre forms part of a wider national expansion in healthcare infrastructure, which also includes the planned addition of a new Cardiac Unit.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Minister of Housing and Works Maria Browne have pledged their continued support to ensure the project is delivered on schedule.
With construction moving ahead, government officials say the facility could become one of the most advanced of its kind in the Eastern Caribbean, offering hope and relief to patients who previously had limited options.

I’m pleased with the progress of the project but let’s move faster
I’m so pleased to see this project finally moving forward. The construction of a new, state-of-the-art Renal Centre is a huge step forward for healthcare in our country. For years, people with kidney disease have faced incredible challenges, and this new facility will provide the life-saving care they need right here at home. This is an investment in our people’s health and well-being.
