The Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the innovative Veer Group, a company at the forefront of clean shipping and energy solutions.

This partnership is aimed at advancing the development of the world’s first and only zero-emission container ship capable of traversing the ocean.

Danielle Southcott, the founder and CEO of Veer Group, expressed her enthusiasm during an interview with Antigua.news at the recent ACTIF conference in Grenada.

Last week, she engaged in discussions with Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Port Manager Darwin Telemaque to explore the potential collaboration further.

Southcott, whose company is registered in the Bahamas, highlighted the importance of finding a strong partnership to promote clean shipping and energy independence. “Antigua and Barbuda is one of the ideal places for this initiative,” she stated.

Veer’s container ship has received complete approval from the American Bureau of Shipping and has secured conditional financing of €50 million to facilitate the construction of these state-of-the-art vessels.

This collaboration represents a significant step forward in the pursuit of sustainable maritime practices in the region, positioning Antigua and Barbuda as a leader in the clean energy transition within the shipping industry.
