The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission warmly congratulates Ge’Eve Phillip on her remarkable triumph at the 2025 Leeward Islands Calypso Monarch Competition, which took place on Saturday, August 9th, at the Landsome Bowl in Anguilla.
With her powerful performances of “One Man” and “Daughter Come,” Ge’Eve enchanted the judges and the audience, showcasing her exceptional vocal abilities, strong stage presence, and compelling storytelling through lyrics. Her victory signifies not just a personal achievement but also a source of national pride for Antigua and Barbuda, marking a significant moment in the history of regional calypso.
In a noteworthy achievement, Ge’Eve has become the youngest female calypsonian to ever win the esteemed Leeward Islands title, a competition that has traditionally been male-dominated.
Daryll Matthew, the Minister responsible for the Creative Industries, praised her accomplishment: “This win is monumental for Antigua and Barbuda. Ge’Eve’s extraordinary talent and dedication demonstrate our cultural strength in the region. Her victory is a shared celebration that fills us with great pride.”
Ambassador Elizabeth Makhoul, Chairperson of the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission, expressed her joy: “Seeing our youth excel on such a significant platform is truly gratifying. Ge’Eve’s victory showcases her talent, commitment, and passion, proving that age and gender are no limitations to achieving greatness.”
This groundbreaking win adds to Ge’Eve’s extraordinary musical journey. She began her career in 2013 at the young age of seven in Antigua’s Junior Calypso competitions, where she captured 11 junior titles. In 2022, at just 16, she made her senior Calypso Monarch debut with “Small but Meh Tallawah,” earning 1st runner-up. This year, she commanded the stage in Antigua’s 2025 Calypso Monarch competition before representing her country in Anguilla on the Leeward Islands stage.
The 2025 competition brought together top calypsonians from various regions, including Antigua and Barbuda, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat, and the host nation, Anguilla. Ge’Eve outperformed all, with Queen Roxxy of Anguilla finishing as 1st runner-up and Drewzy of St. Kitts taking 2nd runner-up.
The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission extends heartfelt congratulations to Ge’Eve, her chaperone, the Calypso Sub-Committee led by Peter Abraham, and the entire Antiguan delegation that supported her journey.
Ge’Eve’s victory is more than just a title; it’s a cultural statement, an inspiration for young creatives everywhere, and a testament to Antigua and Barbuda’s continued leadership in regional music and culture.
