The Antigua & Barbuda Pan Association (ABPA) joined the global community in marking World Steelpan Day, sending warm greetings to Antiguans and Barbudans at home and across the diaspora.
ABPA President Patrick “Stone” Johnson said the occasion is a moment to reflect on the nation’s deep and lasting contribution to the steelpan movement.
“From the pioneering work of the legendary CUB Hells Gate Steel Orchestra, now celebrating an extraordinary 80 years of existence, to the enduring legacies of Harmonites, Halcyon, Gemonites, and Ebonites Steel Orchestras, our bands have shaped the sound and spirit of pan for generations. ”
He also extended well wishes to West Side Symphony, Panache, Original, and Pandemonium Steel Orchestras, praising their continued growth and success.
Johnson used the opportunity to salute all band leaders and mentors who work with young panists. “Your dedication ensures that the heartbeat of the pan movement will continue to resonate loudly into the future,” he said.
The ABPA is encouraging the public to celebrate the achievements of the country’s pan community and to help preserve and promote the steelpan tradition for generations to come.

The steelpan is so much more than just a musical instrument; it’s a tool for youth development and community building. I hope this celebration inspires more young people to get involved with steelpan orchestras.
