Dr Jacqui Quinn Dismisses Rumors of Political Comeback

Local radio talk show host and former education minister Dr Jacqui Quinn has firmly denied speculation that she intends to contest the St. George constituency on a United Progressive Party (UPP) ticket—or any political ticket at all.

Rumours had suggested Quinn would replace incumbent MP Algernon “Serpent” Watts in the next general election. But Quinn says she was blindsided by the chatter.

“No. I’m not running. The main reason why I retired from politics was for health reasons. As a cancer survivor now 13 years in remission, it would be medically foolhardy for me to expose myself to the rigours and stressors of a political campaign,” she told Antigua.news.

Watts has reportedly indicated he does not plan to seek re-election.
