Cedar Valley Residents Sentenced Following Drug and Ammo Convictions

Two Cedar Valley residents were sentenced this morning after pleading guilty to drug and ammunition charges stemming from a police raid earlier this week.

Mandella Spencer, 39, was ordered to pay $11,000 within one year or face one year imprisonment for possession of 368.9 grams of cannabis valued at $3,698. He was reprimanded and discharged on a separate charge of possessing eight cannabis plants valued at $400.

Nyana Alfred, 23, was sentenced to four weeks imprisonment for unlawful possession of four rounds of ammunition. She was reprimanded and discharged for possession of 0.2 grams of cocaine valued at $7.

The pair were arrested Tuesday when the Criminal Investigations Department Task Force conducted a raid in Cedar Valley. The operation uncovered quantities of illegal substances and ammunition, including the cannabis, cocaine, and four .25 millimetre rounds of ammunition.

Both defendants initially faced multiple charges, including unlawful possession of ammunition, drug possession, possession with intent to transfer, and cultivation of cannabis.

During their court appearance Thursday, Alfred pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and ammunition charges, while Spencer entered guilty pleas to possession of cannabis and cannabis plants.

They were remanded until today for their sentencing hearing before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel.
