Meteorological services give all-clear as Hurricane Erin Passes Safely North

Erin is passing a safe distance to our north as a Cat 4 hurricane.

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services issued an all-clear notice this morning as Hurricane Erin moved safely away from the Leeward Islands and British Virgin Islands.

As of 8:00 AM Saturday, Category 4 Hurricane Erin was located approximately 120 miles northeast of the Leeward Islands, moving west-northwest at 20 miles per hour. The storm is now outside the region’s monitored area, prompting meteorologists to discontinue all tropical cyclone alerts and tropical storm watches.

The announcement, brings welcome relief to residents across the islands who had been monitoring the hurricane’s progress since earlier this week.

Weather officials confirmed that while Erin will continue passing just north of the region over the weekend, no direct impact is expected on any of the territories that were previously under alert.
