The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment, and Civil Service Affairs is intensifying efforts to address mental health challenges, following a strategic meeting with representatives from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph, alongside Junior Minister Senator Michael Joseph and Permanent Secretaries Stacey Gregg-Paige and Colin O’Keiffe, met with Dr. Nikhil Jain and Ms. Tanya Fernandes of PAHO to review outcomes from a recent workshop focused on mental health and responsible suicide reporting in the media.

The workshop, which brought together journalists, media professionals, and health stakeholders, highlighted the importance of accurate and sensitive reporting to reduce stigma, encourage open dialogue, and increase public awareness of mental health issues.

The Ministry’s continued partnership with PAHO reflects Antigua and Barbuda’s dedication to building a comprehensive approach to mental wellbeing, ensuring that both public education and professional training are central to the country’s health strategy.
