Two government employees have each been awarded $50,000 in damages after suffering long-term injuries in separate workplace accidents, according to a report in the Daily Observer.
Immigration Officer Julie Osborne was injured in 2019 when she tripped over a torn carpet at the Immigration Department, leaving her with ongoing complications in her dominant right hand.
Meanwhile, Nakita Brown, a Senior Legal Officer at the Social Security Board, was hurt in 2018 after falling down stairs at her workplace. She continues to experience pain in her shoulder, neck, and arm, which has affected both her work and home life.
The High Court found both employers negligent and ordered compensation for pain and suffering.

$50k seems fair, but no amount of money really makes up for years of pain and frustration. Hope they get the support they need to heal fully. Hope that money don’t go right back into court fees
Workplace negligence is more common than people think. This is a reminder to everyone to be careful and speak up if conditions are unsafe.
The torn carpet I can understand. The falling down the stairs?……..
Well, shouldn’t employers now introduce a shoes protocol or, better yet, invest in a breathalyzer for use upon arrival to work and especially post lunch??🤔🤪
Government talks about protecting citizens but ignores its own workers until forced.
I certainly hope that there will not be appeals and the employers will pay these people their money. Im curious though to know why it took so damn long for the matter to be concluded
@faithful National. Where have you been? You and your idiotic self. I find the claims frivolous, but that is them.
Hmm… I don’t know, man. Something about this story feels off. Accidents happen, sure, but the way they’re talking about the injuries, like it’s affecting every little thing in their life, makes me wonder if they’re stretching it a bit. Hard to tell if it’s really that bad or just a way to get the payout.
I’m not fully convinced their accounts are entirely accurate. Workplace accidents happen, but the details seem a bit unclear, and I wonder if the injuries are being overstated.
