Antigua and Barbuda is preparing to break new ground in funeral services with the upcoming launch of the nation’s first crematory, Meyer’s Funeral Home.
The historic facility represents a significant milestone for the twin-island nation, offering families an alternative to traditional burial services for the first time in the country’s history. Meyer’s Funeral Home officials describe the development as “a transformative step forward in providing families with greater choice, comfort, and dignity in commemorating their loved ones.”
The crematory will initially operate with a phased approach, beginning with direct cremation services that allow families the flexibility to arrange memorial ceremonies separately according to their preferences and timeline. This initial phase focuses on providing the core cremation service without accompanying ceremonial elements.
Meyer’s Funeral Home plans to expand the facility’s offerings in the coming months to include a comprehensive range of burial and cremation options. The full-service facility will eventually feature both on-site cremation capabilities and a dedicated chapel designed for reflection and remembrance ceremonies.
The funeral home emphasizes that the expanded services will be “thoughtfully designed to meet the diverse needs of our community,” indicating an effort to accommodate various cultural and religious preferences within Antigua and Barbuda’s population.
Beyond cremation services, the facility will provide funeral, memorial, and grief support services as part of its comprehensive approach to end-of-life care. The addition of cremation options marks a significant expansion of choices available to families during difficult times.
The opening timeline for the crematory has not been specified, with Meyer’s Funeral Home indicating only that the facility is “coming soon” to the local community.

Who are these people. Is this a new funeral home. What happen to the two Canadian women who wanted to offer that service. Is that them. Are these people local?
Antiguans are dumb NF ( Not Friendly!) What the hell does it matter that Antigua already has two funeral homes???? What hell does it matter if these operators are native born or not???? There is an obvious need and demand for service. Fullstop! Geeez!
Where will this funeral home be located?
This is a welcome development for Antigua and Barbuda. Cemetery space is limited and burials are becoming very costly. Cremation offers a more affordable and practical option for families who may not be able to manage the high expenses of traditional funerals. Now my second thought is whether it is true that this new company is owned by some family of PM Browne
When my relative passed overseas, cremation gave us the flexibility to have a memorial service weeks later, when all the family could travel. It meant everyone could be part of the farewell. I’m glad families here will now have that same flexibility
This will definitely help ease the pressure on cemeteries that are running out of space.
The way how ppl so unorganised here. Plenty ppl go dey get back wrong ashes n all kinda subben. Imagine…. you cremate yah granny and unknowingly receive the ashes a smaddy uncle.
