Antiguan Electoral Officials to Join CARICOM Observer Teams in Guyana and Jamaica
Three senior officials from the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) have been selected by CARICOM to serve on election observer missions in Guyana and Jamaica, reinforcing Antigua and Barbuda’s reputation for professionalism in regional electoral management.
Supervisor of Elections Ian S. Hughes will be deployed to Guyana, while Commission Member Clovis St. Romain and Public Relations Officer Elisa Graham will travel to Jamaica. Guyana holds its general election on 1 September, followed by Jamaica on 3 September.
The teams will monitor all aspects of the electoral process, from the pre-election environment to polling day and post-election activities, before compiling their findings in reports to CARICOM. Observer missions are widely viewed as key to strengthening democracy, ensuring transparency, and boosting public confidence in elections.
ABEC Chairman, Ambassador Arthur G.B. Thomas, congratulated the officials on their appointments. “We are proud that our team members have once again been called upon to contribute their expertise to regional electoral processes. Their inclusion reflects the high regard for the professionalism and credibility of ABEC. When our officials serve abroad, they bring back valuable lessons that enhance our own electoral processes while at the same time actively shaping regional democratic cooperation” he said.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding electoral integrity both at home and across the Caribbean, noting that participation in regional missions helps build technical capacity and promotes best practices in election management.

How do I qualify to become an observer. I may have asked this on this same platform but never got a response
These observer missions are so important for Caribbean democracy. It’s great that Antigua and Barbuda is contributing to building fair elections across the region.
Fantastic to see Antigua and Barbuda’s officials being recognized regionally. This shows our country’s credibility and expertise in managing elections.
Big up yourself Elisa Graham. Continue to make us women proud. We love you mama.
It’s important for Caribbean nations to support each other during elections. Cooperation strengthens democracy across the region.
